Francophone schools in Vanuatu have received a welcome boost for the start of their academic year with the delivery of new computer equipment courtesy of Ecoles Pikinini Nouvelle Caledonie.

The assistance is a continuation of the organisation's re-mapped project set up to assist 55 Francophone schools around the country damaged by Cyclone Pam.

A co-ordinator for New Caledonia's Ecoles Pikinini, Sonia Couprie, said the programme aimed to not only re-equip but also improve the facilities and resources in these schools.

"It's computers but it is also books and its paper and furniture, so it is anything that could be missing due to the cyclone and that had to be replaced or re-equipped that Ecoles Pikinini is focusing on providing to those schools."

Sonia Couprie said under the project more than 100 computers have been sourced for distribution to schools.
