Minister for Finance and Economic Management Gaetan Pikioune has launched the consultation paper for the nationwide consultation relating to the proposed income tax of the Vanuatu Government

Radio Vanuatu reports Minister Pikioune in his short remarks at the launch yesterday urged that it was time for the people of Vanuatu to show patriotism to their country by supporting the government’s revenue review initiative or tax reforms in order for the government to continue to meet service delivery needs of the people.

In addition to the launch, the Minister also announced a dedicated website for the Revenue Review Team (RRT), which people can access at www.revenuereview.gov.vu, should they wish to access
information relating to the tax reforms.

Members of the public who have access to the internet are encouraged to go to the website once materials (including the full text of the Consultation Paper and Frequently Asked Questions and their answers) are posted, or through its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Vanuatu-Revenue-Review-604092133102460/

The government firmly believes having in place a fair, effective and efficient tax and revenue system that match international taxation standards, would greatly benefit the country’s social services in the long-turn – more than what the current tax system can afford.

To begin the consultation process, the Revenue Review Team will be meeting the entire government Caucus, DGs, Directors and all public servants tomorrow (Tuesday 20th September)
at 2pm at the Convention Centre. Other sectors of the Vanuatu communities should keep a lookout for when their turn comes up.

A consultation program has been developed covering much of the country, including on a sector by- sector basis.

All consultations should be concluded by the end of October so that other necessary review work could be progressed in preparation for July 1st 2017 as the first stage roll-out.
