
The organizing Committee for the Fest’Napuan has confirmed preparations are well-underway in Vanuatu.
The committee says an initial selection of string bands has been made for the Fest’Nalenga which will happen on Wednesday, October 12 as the opening night of the Fest’Napuan 2016 music festival.
The string band music is another musical genre that became widely popular during the 20th century in all areas of Vanuatu.
It combines guitars, ukulele, and popular songs that are sung in a unique island fashion.
In this year’s event, the bands selected are:
Kensul Youth
2. Erawia (Eratap Mamas)
3. Shakura
4. Saumaro (Moso)
5. Reo Re Fenua (Namburu/Makira)
6. Dongo Leo Wia (Lelepa)
7. Fenuariki (Stade/Emae)
The selected numbers are mostly from the Shefa province, where string band is very popular.
While 7 string bands were selected, others were asked to be on stand-by to perform should time allow are Malnaruru, Mena Muria and Taviru.
Stalls are still on sale at Florabunda florist shop on the ground floor of the ex-Immigration Building. Stalls can sell both food and kava, and the price per stall is 40,000 vatu.
