The Department of Local Authorities (DLA) under Vanuatu’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MOIA) will be hosting an induction and retreat programme for new and old Area Council Administrators in Port Vila.
More than 25 Area Administrators including Provincial Planners from Torba to Tafea provinces will attend the session.
Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat is expected to open the induction session.
New Area Administrators will be inducted in their roles as newly appointed government officials to be based in Area Councils throughout the country.
Area Administrators are key government officials linking the provincial and national government to the communities.
Their roles are vital as they work with the different communities in the respective Area Councils, undertake community profiling and develop Area Council Plans for the Area Councils.
The Area Council Plan then forms the Provincial Plans for the different provinces.
The Area Administrators will also be briefed by a number of government agencies as part of building their knowledge about the different government services.
The Department of Strategic Policy Planning also plans to undertake awareness on the National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP) 2020-2030 to the Area Administrators in order for them to understand their roles as important contributor to the People’s Plan.
Other agencies within the Ministry of Internal Affairs are expected to brief the new Area Administrators on the roles undertaken on behalf of these agencies.
Provincial Planners and other Area Administrators will also participate in the induction program as part of team building and experience sharing to the new Area Administrators. DLA also plans to invite other Directors to meet with the Area Administrators as part of building the linkages with other government agencies.
