
A 6.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Vanuatu region early this morning but there was no tsunami threat.
Fiji’s Mineral Resources Department's Seismology Unit said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 60 kilometres at 1:06am.
According to Fiji Times, it was 35 kilometres west from Lenakel in Vanuatu and 1018 kilometres west-southwest from Suva.
The Seismology Unit said it was a strong size earthquake with deep depth source location.
Meanwhile, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Santa Cruz Island region at a depth of 35 kilometres at 6:44pm yesterday.
The earthquake was 479 kilometres east from Honiara in Solomon Islands and 1883 kilometres northwest from Suva.
