Vanuatu Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) is conducting a monitoring and evaluation survey of its priority programmes.

The survey targets programmes that have been implemented by the department over the last three years including the use of tractor, production of potato, onion and kava on major production islands throughout the country.

The survey is the first of a series of its kind to be carried out by the department to follow up on its programmes and activities in order to provide an in-depth understanding of whether or not programmes have been implemented effectively and impacted the livelihoods of rural farming communities.

It will help the department to track implementation and outputs systematically and measure the effectiveness of the different programmes to determine exactly if a programme is on track and when changes may be needed by the department.

The survey in Santo was conducted by technical experts from the Department in Vila with assistance of officers on the ground.

The team will also conduct surveys on Maewo, Epi, Efate, and Tanna early next month.

A report will be compiled and presented during the department’s planning workshop on key outcomes of the survey for better implementation, management and sustainability of these programmes.
