The Korman Beach Volleyball court was half packed with locals – a mix of spectators and volunteers – as the players put on some exciting performances.
The matches played at the Van2017 Test Event day at the weekend showed that Vanuatu Beach Volleyball is prepped and ready for these Pacific Mini Games.
With the National Men’s team competing in Australia this week, the trial event matches were performed by VBF league players.
“Trial matches are being performed by the league players, who are players not selected to be in the team to perform at the Games,” said Debbie Masauvakalo, the President of the Vanuatu Beach Volleyball Federation.
“The selected team is in Sydney at the moment for the FYVB world tour events.”
Masauvakalo said she is confident in the selected teams, with the female team well experienced having participated a lot and performed well in many World Tour events, and they should win medals at the Mini Games.
She said for the male teams it would be a bit difficult as most of them have never participated in such big events, but they are training for medals.
“We’re training hard for Team Papua New Guinea and Team Fiji as they also are strong teams in the Pacific. PNG won gold in the last Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna. We are determined to achieve gold this time,” said Masauvakalo.
