Fisheries, William Naviti and Director of Biosecurity, Timothy Tumukon, have publicly declared May 26 and October 26 respectively as the days on which each Department is going to launch its Policy.
The two are the remaining Departments to work on their policies after the Departments in the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity have kick-started the process towards working on their policies the launching them to provide guidelines on how and what each Department is expected to achieve in the years ahead.
Director General of MALFFB, Howard Aru, made the surprise announcement during the launching of the Livestock Policy at original Tagabe Agriculture Station recently.
This part of the preparatory process was reported to have been planned without the knowledge of the two Directors.
They were called to the stage and handed a large bush knife each. In front of the stage stood a banana tree with a bundle of fruits.
The DG apparently took them by surprise by telling the public that they had to decide there and then the date on which each Department was going to launch its Policy.
After putting their heads together and whispering for a few seconds, Naviti walked up to the front and swung his knife slicing the banana tree clean and shouted “May 26”.
Next Director Tumukon walked to the fallen bundle of bananas and sliced off the leaves shouting “October 26”.
The two dates are earmarked when each Department is going to launch its Policy.
